Pretending it’s Spring

The sun is shining, the air is fresh, and spirits are high out in the pasture today.

Frank even came out of his shell a bit

Amazing what some sunshine and “falfers” (alfalfa pellets) can do 🙂

For as wet as it’s been, I was pleasantly surprised that Dottie doesn’t seem too felted

I got a little bit of quality time with her and Chone , who is sporting a mighty nice-looking fleece himself

Esther’s fleece looks kind of messy on the outside (tips are pretty weathered, and some chicken keeps pooping on her!)

but I think it’s still really nice underneath. One thing’s for certain, there is lots of it!

I’m still not officially done with the argyle socks, but I’ve given in to the the green and cast on my cabled sweater-

I know it doesn’t look like much yet, but I’m really excited about how it’s coming along. The fabric feels great, and it’s fun to work on. I’d almost forgotten how satisfying this kind of textured work is.

Here’s a better look at how the cable panel on the back is shaping up.

Summer Sun

The kind that shines and warms, casting shadows and causing contrast-y photos.

We finally got some.

Here’s my proof-

The berries are finally ripening-

And I finally weeded what veg is still hanging on in the garden-

IMG_3064

Meanwhile, the sheeps were mostly hanging out, chewing their cud in the comfy shade of the shed-

IMG_3065

All except Griff, of course. He tends to kind of do his own thing 🙂

IMG_3070

Sadie the sunshine pup was all ready for a game of ball-

Chickens were out on patrol-

And it’s amazing how fast yarn dries outside when it’s warms out! Here’s some recently finished Edgar/Griff (top), and Felix/Frank, one of my first bulky attempts on the new Pirtle-

It’s supposed to cloud up again tomorrow.

But I think I got enough sunshine units today to carry me for a little while.

It’s brought me back from the brink of serious crankiness.

Whew. That was close.

Scenes from a sunny (!) weekend-

Finally got the tomatoes in.

DSC_7563

This year we’re going almost exclusively with cherry tomato varieties (with the exception of one Cougar Red plant) as these are the only ones that ripen up reliably during our short summers.

We’re trying out a new thing this year-  red plastic mulch. Hoping it will keep weeds down, and the yield up. Everywhere around here seems to be sold out of the red plastic tomato greenhouses (a perforated plastic bag that slips over the tomato cages), but we’ve got some of those on order too.

Also did some tractor-ing. High on the project list this summer is re-furbishing the north end of the sheep shed and turning it into hay storage.

Tractors are might good for cleaning out sheds, and digging post holes!

Love the tractor.

(yes it’s only supposed to be that tall)  🙂

It was pretty hot here by PNW-in-June standards- about 80, I think.

Here is Sadie cooling her jets in the sheeps’ water-

And here she is after exploring the pond (no action shot on that one… she knew not to try it while I was watching)

The poor goldfish are probably terribly traumatized.

And finally, once the lawn is mowed and I’ve washed all the pond out of Sadie’s hair, I find some time to sit and work on the sweater.

I love happy endings.
