Ready or Not, Here it Comes!

Happy New Year to you all!

We ushered in 2016 quietly here- no parties out in the sheep shed that I’m aware of, though you never know what those crazy chickens are up to in the coop after hours….

As 2015 was drawing to a close, it occurred to me recently that I’m a bit behind in fleece processing.
Come March or April, the boys are going to be looking for haircuts, and I still have a couple unwashed fleeces from last spring tucked in a closet!
So I got down to it on new year’s eve and washed some Griff. He’s got the greasiest of my fleeces, so I did a stovetop washing to get a little heat boost.

So now I have some lovely freshly washed caramel colored fleece hanging out air-drying in our bathtub.

which is almost as good as having a sheep in the house 🙂

In other news, I’m now up to 7 skeins of chain plied Chone yarn (just over 20 oz). Really like the yarn but am still uncertain of what I’m going to make out of it. I’m waffling on Burr.

And I really thought I’d have my argyle socks done by new year’s, but it’s taking longer than expected.
It’s all going just fine,, but all those ends! Ohmygosh there are SO MANY ENDS!
I have one sock done to show you-

And it fits!

Here is a shot of the gusset.

In theory, the second half of the second sock should go faster, but I guess we’ll see.
Stay tuned.

Go Hawks!

Blog’s New Home

Hey- Thanks for dropping in!

I’ve been taking a web design class the last couple of months, and in the process have built this new site. It’s been a lot of fun, and I have learned a lot, but it’s probably taken some of my attention away from blogging each weekend.

So now that I’ve got my own domain and the blog is all moved over to it’s new home, I hope to be able to give it a little more of my time and energy.

In knitting news, I’m still working on socks for nephews.

But I’m getting mighty close.

Less than half a sock to go. With any luck I can get them in the mail some time this week!

Also been working on a new variation on the Griff+mohair theme

Not quite as flashy as the multicolor singles, but I think it has interesting possibilities-

Question for y’all-

What do you recommend for post-sock-marathon leisurely holiday travel knitting?

Shearing

The boys are shorn in the spring using old-fashioned hand shears in the spring, and sometimes again in the fall. I take it slow and and try hard to keep the guys comfortable and stress-free.Sometimes this means letting someone walk around around half-shorn for a while if they get antsy and uncooperative.

Signed, Seamed and Delivered.

Shadow is officially done.

And its a good fit! I am so pleased.

First sweater knit entirely of wool from my very own guys. Way to go Edgar and Griff! 🙂

In other news, I finally did something with all those neat little quinces that our tree produced this year!

After doing a little research online, I decided to go with processing them into quince paste, aka Membrillo.

It seems that Manchego cheese is the perfect match for the quince paste, and I thought that was mighty cool, since it is a sheep milk cheese. So I set about finding some!

Oh yeah. Just the right thing.
Big yum.
