Almost Expo Time!

Just a reminder that next Saturday is the WSU Country Living Expo in Stanwood.

So I have to get myself organized! Wool to play with, carders, combs, wheel(s)?, wheel first aid kit, etc etc.
I’ll have the subaru pretty well stuffed I think.

My one regret in signing up to do five sessions of classes is that I won’t have any time to go any other classes myself.
But it’s always fun to talk to folks about wool and get people started spinning, so it should be a great day.

In other news, I’ve expanded my Etsy offerings to include some yarn- selected groupings of coordinated shades both naturals and dyed/blended of about 5 ounces each. Enough for a hat, cowl or other small project.

Have a great week!

Meet Wee Edgar!

Such a handsome fellow

And looking sharp in his cable knit sweater

He was fun to make. The pattern is really well written and detailed.
A bit fussy with the finishing (lots of sewing and ends) but turned out really cute-

and a pretty good likeness I think!

Wee Bits and Pieces

For some odd reason I am still not ready to get back to Autumn’s End.

For a while it was hats, then a just-for-the -heck-of-it cowl

My current distraction is this sweet little sheep

It’s an interesting pattern. In looking at the picture I would never have guessed how it is constructed.
I’m making one in the likeness of Edgar- here are the pieces so far

Body and head

Three out of four legs

So I’ve still got one leg, ears and horn band to knit. And a sweater too, I guess.
Then comes the sewing up.

But I think it’s going to be super cute.

I might need to make a whole wee flock!

And I have gotten a little spinning done lately as well- blended batts left over from the holiday market have become sweet little skeins

Long live the stash!

Last Hat of 2016

It was going to be a quick one.
But felting with a variety of handspun yarns can be kind of a crapshoot.

2016-12-31_01-20-07

It knit up fast, but then didn’t felt down quite the way I’d hoped.
The ribbed edge actually grew by about 3 inches. Maybe more.
Crazy.

So I had to take a step back and redesign on the fly.

Thankfully (?) the section just above the ribbing didn’t really felt very well, so I was able to carefully snip and pull out a row to remove the ribbing and leave felted but live stitches above to work with.

Picked up the stitches, and knit down corrugated ribbing on smaller needles. Finished off with Elizabeth Zimmerman’s sewn “Better Bindoff” so it has a little give at the edge.

Whew! Finally sized for a normal-sized human head 🙂
And it’s felted down pretty hard through the body, so should be super toasty.

Which is a good thing, because it’s supposed to get mighty cold again next week.

Happy New Years everyone!
