I’m mighty pleased to announce that I have (essentially) finished the Shepherd’s vest!
It still needs to be blocked, and the ends woven in, but the knitting is done.
So that frees up my needles for the next challenge, Shadow, from Wool People.
Just finished another 400 or so yds of Edgar/Griff for this project,
and I have a few other skeins already in the stash, so I’m set to get a start, but will probably have to do a fair bit more on the yarn-generation side as I go to get to the finish line on this one.
My yarn is a bit lighter-weight than Shelter, the yarn specified in the pattern, and so will have to do some knitting math to adjust stitch counts and such. Looks like size 6 needles for this one.

I’ve looked hard at this pattern to see if there is any possible way to translate it into a seamless, in-the-round construction type of thing, and it was making my brain very tired.
So, this is going to be the first sweater I’ve ever knit in pieces and then assembled.

I do love the new start. That pattern on the swatch is beautiful.
I need to try some new patterns. It’s such a learning curve for me. I guess I should go to a knitting group and get some help.

Thanks- I think branching out and learning new skills probably is a good thing. Perhaps I’ll find that I really like seaming and setting in sleeves!

The Shepherd’s vest looks great- I am sure he will love it! So in the photos Edgar and Griff’s wool looks more mioget than moorit. Is that the case or just the effects of the lighting? The swatch and pattern look great. I am currently working on my first separate piece sweater too (for the last 2 years!). I have sewed in sleeves before but nothing this complicated. There are 6 pieces and I am on number 5. I really hope these pieces come together well.
Thanks- the Edgar/Griff yarn isn’t quite that golden. I think thats the flash at work. But they are both lightening a bit. Will be interesting to see what next years fleeces look like!
